The Elevations Buffalo Bicycle Classic has just the test for you. During the Buff Epic, ascend Boulder Canyon on Sept. 8 against the clock. Win one of 10 polka-dot jerseys from by our friends and sponsors at TIAA-CREF. Regardless of how you place, you’ll gain the satisfaction of knowing you gave the canyon your all.
We have prizes for the top five men and five women in five age categories. That’s five times as many chances to win as you had last year.
Use the Strava app on an Android or iPhone or use a Garmin or Timex GPS to record your ride on the 13.5-mile course up the canyon. (We’ll have laptops at the finish to upload your GPS data to Strava.com, though smartphone users’ data will sync automatically.)
Riders in last year’s USA Pro Cycling Challenge rode the canyon segment at an average of 18 mph. If you top that, quit your day job. Also last year, members of the CU Cycling Team did a time trial up Boulder Canyon, and you can see their results, the pros’ and others’ on Strava.com. (See: http://app.strava.com/segments/1601734.)
On Sept. 8, the westbound lane of Highway 119 will be closed to auto traffic for our ride, making the climb a passel of pleasure (with a peck of pain). Did we mention that this timed segment is part of the new and improved, longer and tougher 110-mile Buff Epic?
This is great fun. This is why we do it: The Buff Bike Classic raises scholarship funds for high-performing University of Colorado students who qualify for financial aid. The tally so far: $1.8 million raised, 800 scholarships awarded.
This year, we host five routes for all cycling abilities. Besides the Buff Epic, we feature the 70-mile, 50-mile, 35-mile and the 14-mile “Little Buff” ride.
If you want to track your training alongside that of other Buff Bike Classic registrants, join the Buffalo Bicycle Classic club on Strava.com. It’s free: http://app.strava.com/clubs/buffalo-bicycle-classic-club

About The Ride
The Buffalo Bicycle Classic is a cycling fundraiser. Since 2003, more than $1.8 million in scholarships have been awarded to promising students in CU-Boulder’s College of Arts and Sciences.
In recent years, the ride has attracted 2,500 participants -- CU alumni, kids in trailers, professional cyclists and everyone in between. Participants choose a course from several options and ride at their own pace. The shortest course, the "Little Buff," explores the wonderful bike path network in the City of Boulder. In 2013, we're adding ten miles to the Buff Epic up Boulder Canyon, and changing the course to include the Carter Lake climb.
